Charlottetown Rural High School Presents: High School Musical* May 10, 2018 - May 12, 2018 7:30 pmHigh School Musical is a Disney Channel Original Movie that first aired January 20, 2006 and was deemed an instant hit. It is a story centering around the Albuquerque, New Mexico fictional East High School and their students. High School Musical is about two high school juniors from rival cliques - Troy Bolton, captain of the basketball team, and Gabriella Montez, a shy transfer student who excels in math and science.

Together, they try out for the lead parts in their high school musical, which causes division among all the school's students. Despite other students' attempts to thwart their dreams, Troy and Gabriella resist peer pressure, inspiring others along the way. High school diva Sharpay Evans and her twin brother Ryan, will do anything to sabotage the friendship and romance between Troy and Gabriella alnd to get the leads in the school musical.

Since its premiere, more than 100 million people have viewed the movie around the world. The movie received multiple accolades including Emmy Billboard Music and American Music Awards for both the movie and the soundtrack. High School Musical has become one of the centerpieces of Disney's teen marketing, with the original soundtrack and DVD versions having gone multiple platinum. The movie is directed and choreographed by Kenny Ortega, who also worked on Disney's Newsies and Hocus Pocus. Two sequels have been made due to the success of the film and it has also been adapted into a musical theatre stage show, a concert tour and a book series.
